The reasons why Instagram is not working for you

How to find loyal and engaged followers using Instagram? That is the holy grail of all accounts on Instagram, right? Get more likes, get more comments, get more shares.

Some people would use services that offer to buy followers and likes. If you are in business, I do NOT recommend you to do so. The reason being is that you will maybe gain new followers and likes in the short term, but in the long term this will affect your engagement rate because the people who followed you have no interest in the content you post and will become ghost followers.

Others would actually grind and try every technique they can in order to figure out what works for them and what their audience like the most. But it might work one day and stop working the next day because of the algorithm changes.

So what are you actually doing wrong?

In this article I will share with you my best practices when using Instagram to promote my business and the techniques I use to encourage my followers to engage on my posts.

1. I Get Clear on WHO I’m Trying to Target

It all starts with your audience. As you’ve heard me say before, when you market to everyone, you actually market to no one.

So, I get crystal clear on WHO I’m trying to reach. I want to understand who they are, what they believe in, what they do, and how I can connect with them and also how can they connect with me from the content I create.

Once I understand who they are, I will pick either 1 or up to 3 topics to share on my account so that people can relate to me. Overtime, I’ll be able to see what topics get me the most engagement on my posts from the insights tab.

2. I Figure Out Where They Hang Out (online)

I poke around on Instagram and Facebook and figure out who they’re following, what kind of content they engage the most with, and what hashtags they’re using on their posts.

That gives me a good understanding of who I need to pay attention to and where I can find more people like them. It is easy now on Instagram to find a community that would resonate with you and your content. All you have to do is follow hashtags within your niche and spend 20-30 minutes a day just interacting with the content to get noticed.

3. I Consistently Create Compelling Content  

By sharing interesting, valuable, and high-quality content over-and-over again, I know that when my ideal follower DOES end up on my profile, they’re more likely to follow because my content strategy is #onpoint.

But you have to be creating content constantly and share it with valuable advice to help your community. i.e. if you are a photographer, share beautiful photos with advice on how you took the photo and your creative process.

4. I Make Sure My Bio Explains Who I Am

Again, when Instagram user find my profile, I want them to know exactly who I am, what I do, and why they should follow me. I break down the exact steps on how to set up your bio in my Instagram Online training.

Your bio is like your online business card. Within a few seconds people should be able to know who you are, what you do and what they should expect from you. Also having a cohesive Instagram feed appealing to the eye will help your account get noticed in the crowd.

5. I Engage More Than I Post 


Most of the time I spend on Instagram is engaging with new accounts - liking, commenting, messaging, and following the accounts of people I resonate with. That means the work of actually creating and sharing content has to happen strategically (I actually have a whole system for planning a month’s worth of content that I teach inside the #Insta4success 7-day bootcamp.

By using these techniques I am sharing in this bootcamp, you should be able to grow your account consistently. There is no secret recipe to grow your following and convert your followers into customers. You need to be engaged with your community, share great tips to help your community and insert call to actions to redirect them to your product or service for a chance to convert them into customers.
